Your gifts – whether large or small – can be used in a variety of missions to provide basic necessities for the poor. Things we take for granted – our next meal, a secure home, a bed, and a visit to the doctor – are often those things that are simply out of reach for those in need.
In our missions, we strive to help people meet their basic physical needs. We also share with them the message of God’s love by celebrating Mass, offering the sacraments, caring for the sick and dying, teaching religious education, and preaching the Gospel.
Our Missionary Oblates who serve just across the California border in Tijuana, Mexico, are well aware of the needs of the very poor. In this mission, Oblates serve approximately 200,000 people living in shacks which cover the dusty hills of an area called La Morita. Most of these people have recently moved from southern parts of Mexico – looking for a better way of life. Unfortunately, it often takes years for them to find work and a decent home.
Missionary Oblates are helping to provide homes, medical care, and education for many people living in Tijuana. The Oblates are building a new medical clinic which will provide many services, including emergency care, much-needed medicine, and pre-natal check-ups for pregnant women and their children.
Your prayers and support make all this possible. Thank you!
