Dear friend,

Easter Blessings to you! Easter is our holiest feast day in the Christian religion, and, as we look forward to celebrating the Resurrection of Our Lord, I'd like to offer some ways we may prepare ourselves.

Lent is a time of prayer, repentance, and sacrifice. During these 40 days, we may say extra prayers, or give up something important to us, or find a little more time to serve others, all in the name of Our Lord. With each action, we anticipate the coming of Our Savior and make room in our hearts for His love.

This issue of Oblates is designed to help your Lenten journey, and also to help you celebrate the Risen Christ. Inside you will find a story of hope from my brother Oblates in New Orleans. The victims of Hurricane Katrina are trying to find ways to survive, and the Oblates are helping them both physically and spiritually.

You will truly understand the meaning of sacrifice and the power of prayer in Fr. Baudouin Mubesala’s Oblate Profile. Fr. Baudouin was born in, and now serves as an Oblate in, the Democratic Republic of Congo. His moving story of faith and dedication to God is a testament to the Oblate charism.

Finally, you will find two articles that both honor and celebrate the Easter Season. “Why Do We?” contemplates the meaning behind the washing of the feet on Holy Thursday. Then, celebrate the beauty and splendor of spring flowers in “Finding God.”

I think you’ll enjoy our current issue of Oblates. We here at the Missionary Association wish you a Blessed Easter, and we are very grateful for your support.

Gratefully in the Lord,
Fr. Tom Singer, O.M.I.
