Spiritual Renovations - Guild Center

The National Shrine of Our Lady of the Snows is ushering in the new year with renovation of the Edwin J. Guild Center.

Named for the founder of the Shrine, the Guild Center was built in 1984 to house a multi-media program called “The Power.” The program traced Christians’ spiritual journey from the beginning of time to the present day, and then into the future. Thousands of visitors to the Shrine enjoyed this inspirational experience.

Eager to fully utilize the beautiful building in honor of Father Guild, and to keep up with current events, the Oblates and the Shrine decided to renovate the Guild Center. The new design will be a hands-on experience that will explain the charism of the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate.

Upon entering the Guild Center, visitors will come upon a gallery of art and artifacts. A timeline explaining the origins of Christianity will then greet them.

The timeline then leads visitors into a gallery where they can read and view pictorial displays of current Oblate missions. A detailed replica of a hut lived in by many of the poor whom the Oblates serve is also a focal point in the room. Visitors get to walk inside and explore the hut and artifacts. Projecting from the hut’s windows are some 120 images of Oblate missions from around the world. A second room is devoted to some of the long-term rebuilding projects the Oblates have implemented.

Father Guild wanted the Center to be a place of spiritual growth. These renovations will help visitors see how the Oblates strive every day to help others grow in God’s love.
