Dear Friends,
This issue of Oblates Magazine celebrates the hard work and
dedication of Oblates around the world. Inside the following pages, you
will get to know the only Oblate Priest who was born in Cuba – his
story is fascinating! We also honor Oblates who have stood up for their
beliefs and their communities in some of the most dangerous parts of the
world. While their stories are often heartbreaking, they truly emphasize
the dedication of these men. Finally, you can read about Bl. Joseph
Gerard, O.M.I., the only Oblate to be named Blessed.
I hope you also enjoy reading about the National Shrine of Our Lady
of the Snows in Belleville, Illinois, as we celebrate its 50th Anniversary!
This is an exciting time at the Shrine, and we do hope that this story
helps you to feel its warmth and realize its beauty. As I look back at
50 wonderful years of healing and hope, I invite you to reminisce with
another inspiring story: that of Thelma Wair, a woman who boldly shared
her trials and triumphs with Shrine visitors during a past Healing Novena.
There are many more uplifting stories throughout the following
pages. Also, you’ll find beautiful devotional gifts that you may request.
Your donations toward these items benefit the Missionary Oblates of
Mary Immaculate as they serve the poor and needy in the United States
and more than 70 countries throughout the world. Thank you, my
friend, for your support.
As always, I continue to keep you in my prayers. I hope that your
summer months are full of friendship and laughter, and I pray that your
life be filled with blessings from above.
In the love of Christ,
Fr. John Madigan, O.M.I.
Oblate Director
