Dear Friends,

The Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate have carried on the legacy of our founder, St. Eugene De Mazenod for nearly 200 years. We serve the poorest of the poor in the most desolate areas of the world and we have touched the lives of countless men, women and children through our ministries.

Saint Eugene once relayed a message to his fellow Oblates that we continue to live by today. He said, “Your destiny is to be apostles, and so tend within your hearts the sacred fire that the Holy Spirit lights there...” (November 17, 1851) This edition of Oblates will introduce you to some Missionary Oblates who certainly took the founder’s words to heart. These men, Josef Cebula and Joseph Gerard, have been beatified by the Catholic Church and are on their way to becoming canonized. You will also learn in this issue that you needn’t be a Missionary Oblate to make a huge impact on the world around you. You will meet an Oblate lay person who has gone above and beyond the call of duty and taken an active role at an Oblate mission.

Thank you for being a co-missionary of the Oblates! Your prayers and support are essential for our successful mission work and ministries. May God bless you!

Gratefully in the Lord,
Fr. John Madigan, O.M.I.
Oblate Director
