This is an important time for healing in our country. Stresses
build on top of one another, causing a mountain of problems that
can seem overwhelming. Financial stresses – which are so common
in today’s economy – easily lead to tension among family members.
Family stresses cause emotional difficulties. And to make matters
worse, all of these problems can cause distress in our spiritual life.
To lift the dark clouds of stress and anxiety in our lives, look to
the annual Healing and Hope Novena at the National Shrine of
Our Lady of the Snows.
The 66th Annual Healing and Hope Novena begins on July 28
and continues through August 5. This special gathering gives
pilgrims an opportunity to seek healing and hope through the
intercession of Our Lady of the Snows.
The Annual Healing Novena began in 1943 after two Oblate
priests, Fr. Paul Schulte and Fr. Edwin Guild, had fostered devotion to
Our Lady of the Snows at the Oblate seminary in Belleville, Illinois.
Ever since that time the novena has continued as an inspirational
and prayerful devotion to Mary.
Each evening of the novena begins at 7:30 p.m. and features a
special homily, a healing ritual and prayers for healing. The service
is followed by a candlelight rosary procession. Each night focuses on
a different theme, such as financial, spiritual, emotional or physical
healing. The final night of the novena is on August 5, the feast of
Our Lady of the Snows, when we
will give thanks for healings
which have been received.
You too can experience the healing love of Christ and His Blessed
Mother. Please join us for the 2009 Annual Healing and Hope
Novena. Whether you come for one night
or for all nine, we’d love to share this special
event with you. And if you can’t join us
in person, you can still participate in the
novena on-line at www.snows.org.
