Throughout 51 happy years of
marriage, Janet and Don Passage have always relied on their
faith and love for one another to keep them young and vibrant.
But when health problems threatened their financial
security, they decided to make a gift to themselves and to the
world by making a plan for the future with an Oblate Charitable
Gift Annuity.
Don Passage spent much of his
life in banking in Batavia, New York, until 1985, when he and
his wife Janet began their much deserved retirement. They
moved to Aiken, South Carolina, a beautiful place nestled
between the mountains and the ocean.
They spent 10 blissful years
in the auction industry before Don suffered from an aneurysm
and spent four weeks in intensive care. Don recovered
through the loving care of his wife and after many prayers.
However, four years later, Don was
in the hospital again having a triple bypass surgery. As
before, their love for God and one another carried them through
the situation and Don survived. When others would have
turned away from God, they grew together in their faith.
“Don and I wanted to thank
God for the many blessings He has bestowed on us,”
explains Janet.
The Passages made a special
trip to the Missionary Association where they personally
presented their stock certificates to fund an Oblate Charitable
Gift Annuity.
Janet’s mother
contributed to the Missionary Oblates for much of her life, so
the Passages already knew about the great work the Oblates do
in their worldwide ministries with the poor and they wanted to
help.
“Not
to mention, it was nearly THREE TIMES my CD return,”
Janet exclaims.
Their Charitable Gift Annuity
has not only left them more financially secure, but it has also
given hope to the many desperately poor souls in the Oblate
missions.
“It
warms our hearts to know that we can give a little something
back after receiving so many blessings,” the Passages explain. Of course, many of
their Oblate friends have said that their kind hearts could
warm an ocean.
