What is God calling us to do? God inspires us to live good lives every day. Often we ask our divine Father what else we can do. And through a lot of prayers and spiritual guidance, many of us will be blessed with an answer. The rest of us have to wait patiently and prayerfully to discern exactly what it is that God wants us to do. Yet, every so often, it seems more apparent than usual that God has a plan for us. . .

In the 1960s, Fr. Jim Taylor, O.M.I., presented God with a problem. The Missionary Oblates were in desperate need for funding for the completion of the National Shrine of Our Lady of the Snows. One day, after outdoor Mass at the Amphitheatre, Fr. Taylor and his problem met God’s answer – Edgar and Cecilia Grimm.

Edgar and Cecilia were preparing for the wonderful adventure of retirement. They had purchased a lot in Lakeview, Arkansas, and spent much of their time fishing and relaxing in the lovely community which is nestled between two beautiful lakes. The happily married couple spent much time traveling back and forth from Lakeview to their hometown of Milwaukee.

They were on one of these trips, when Cecilia’s sister suggested that they drop by to visit the National Shrine of Our Lady of the Snows. The couple had always loved the National Shrine of Our Lady of the Snows. Cecilia was especially fond of the Shrine and always enjoyed attending the special novenas.

During their visit, the couple learned of Fr. Taylor’s need for funding of the beautiful Shrine and they wanted to help. They were overjoyed when they found out how easy it was to offer their help. Fr. Taylor told them about the benefits of Charitable Gift Annuities and Edgar and Cecilia were able to secure their financial future while helping build a church.

Thanks to their Charitable Gift Annuities, the Grimms did have a happy and secure future. A few years later, they moved to Lakeview to enjoy their retirement and often returned to the National Shrine of Our Lady of the Snows where they could see the magnificent Shrine that they helped Fr. Taylor build.

On April 15th, 2003, Cecilia passed on, but Edgar knows that she is in heaven, because her kindness and prayers were a blessing to the world. And, as Fr. Taylor would testify, God always had a plan for Cecilia, just as He has a plan for all of us. But on one certain evening, it just seemed more apparent than usual that God was guiding the way.
