Dear Friends,

As the Lenten season approaches, we all prepare ourselves for a period of deep prayer and contemplation. Focusing on the sacrifice Our Lord

made for us, and the miracle of His Resurrection, we learn the true depths of God's love.

We all give up something for Lent. This act reminds us in a very small way, the incredibly large sacrifice of Jesus. And when Easter comes, we realize the power of sacrifice. We sing Alleluia, and we bask in the glory of the Resurrection, the cornerstone of our faith.

The Missionary Oblates live quiet lives of sacrifice around the world. They work to eradicate hunger, poverty, social injustice, and disease in the most needy places. In this issue of OBLATES, I am happy to bring you stories of my Oblate brothers in Brazil, who are trying to minister to the 10,000,000 street children there.

In this issue, we also have a story about Lourdes, France, in honor of the approaching Feast day of Our Lady of Lourdes. A unique story of sacrifice comes to us this issue about a donor from the Bronx, who supports the Missionary Oblates. And last, but not least, we discuss the important proclamation of the Year of the Eucharist made by the Holy See.

This is a very special issue of OBLATES magazine. As Lent approaches, we must all remember the true beauty of Our Lord's sacrifice. And we must try to love with the purity that He did. God bless you.
