Sincerely in Christ,
Fr. Louis Studer, O.M.I.
The last time I met with the Pope was in February of 2004. He was already ill, but he still seemed quite content. I introduced myself, and I shared the news that the Oblates had distributed over nine million rosaries throughout the world. Suddenly, he looked at me and
smiled. He said, "I know the Oblates." Those four words said it all.
In his smile, I saw he was truly aware of the works of the Oblates. I understood that he respected the work of my Oblate brothers throughout the world. Personally, it gave me a tremendous feeling of strength and affirmation in my ministry as an Oblate.
Please keep the Holy Father in your prayers. Pray also that his successor will be as wise and as brave a man as Pope John Paul II.

Dear Friends,
I was originally going to write you this letter in reference to my good friend, Fr. Tom Singer, O.M.I. You see, Fr. Tom is joining the Oblate family at the Missionary Association. There, he will act as Director, while I continue as Director of the National Shrine of Our Lady of the Snows. Fr. Tom is going to fit in perfectly, and I can't wait to work with him. In fact, you can read more about Fr. Tom in this issue's Oblate Profile.
However, as I'm sure you know, the Holy Father passed away on Saturday, April 2nd. Although I have feared this eminent approach for some time, I was still grievously shocked and saddened by his passing.
From the Desk of...
Fr. Louis Studer, O.M.I. |
