Oblates support domestic missions in
East St. Louis

Just ten miles away from the National Shrine of Our Lady of the Snows, the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate discovered a real need for ministry in the poor areas of East St. Louis. East St. Louis was once called “the most distressed small city in America.” It presented needs much like those of our foreign missions: spiritual guidance, education, medicine, and food.

Brother Ed Driggins, O.M.I., wears many hats in East St. Louis. Every day brings new challenges and new jobs for him in his ministry.

In response, Bro. Ed Driggins, O.M.I., became an Oblate correspondent and a part-time volunteer with existing East St. Louis ministries, such as Catholic Urban Programs and St. Patrick’s Church. Also, the Oblates have donated funds to continue these vital ministries for this deserving community.
