Dear Friend,
For me, birthdays have very little to do with presents and cake. I see birthdays as a way to do something very simple but important – to say “I love you.”
One way to tell a person you love them is by sending them a special Missionary Oblate Birthday card. The person who receives this card will be remembered in a special Mass at the National Shrine of Our Lady of the Snows. A Votive Candle will also be lit at the Shrine in their honor.
You may also want to send a special gift to someone for their birthday. I have selected some beautiful devotional gifts to show my appreciation for your generous donation.
Please also send me your prayer requests for this special person so the Missionary Oblates can remember your loved one in our Masses and prayers. I ask that you include the date of your birthday with your request so I can make sure you are remembered on your special day during Mass at the National Shrine of Our Lady of the Snows.
Your support of the Missionary Oblates will help us improve the lives of children for whom a birthday is just another day of struggle. You will help educate a girl in Zambia who has to walk miles to gather water for her family. You will help provide medical care for a boy in Bolivia who has to work in the dangerous tin mines. You will help provide after-school care for children in our inner cities who have never had their own birthday cake.
Birthdays give us a chance to say “thank you” to the important people in our lives. I thank God every day for having friends like you who join us in our many ministries.
In Jesus Christ and Mary Immaculate,
Fr. John Madigan, O.M.I. Oblate Director
