Dear Friend,
The Catholic Church has given us the seven Spiritual Works of Mercy, practical ways for believers to show love to others. One of these beautiful acts is to “comfort the afflicted.” Whenever we reach out to someone who is grieving the loss of a loved one we fulfill Our Lord’s command to “comfort the afflicted.”
One way to comfort a grieving person is to send them one of our special Sympathy cards. These cards include a special remembrance at a Mass at the National Shrine of Our Lady of the Snows, and a Votive Candle lit in their honor at the Shrine.
I have selected some Gifts of Comfort that you may want to give to someone who is mourning. The Oblates have also created a Sympathy Prayer Chain to remember and pray for departed loved ones.
You may choose to have a deceased loved one permanently remembered with a Memorial at the Shrine. Some of the Shrine’s more popular Memorial sites are the Resurrection Garden, Mothers Memorial Wall, Fathers Prayer Wall and the Lourdes Grotto.
As you “comfort the afflicted” please know that you are also supporting the healing ministries of the Missionary Oblates in small rural towns in the United States and in faraway countries around the world.
The Missionary Oblates and I are honored to remember your needs in our Masses and prayers.
In Jesus Christ and Mary Immaculate,
Fr. John Madigan, O.M.I. Oblate Director
