I said a prayer for you today

Dear Friend,

Several days ago, I walked into the local grocery store and found myself staring at the floral section. While the flowers were bright and cheerful, it was the balloon display that caught my eye. Silly balloons with clown faces and cartoon characters read, “Get well soon!” while others were decorated with simple flowers and the words, “Wishing you well.” I searched and searched, but couldn’t find any balloons that said, “God bless you” or “Praying for you.”

There are so many times that I can recall saying the words, “I said a prayer for you today.” It is such a simple, yet promising, phrase that seems to instantly warm the soul and give hope. Often, these are the perfect words to comfort a person who is sick – whether they suffer from a simple cold, or perhaps from something more serious – the message is never out of place. What a wonderful blessing!

I pray that you, too, will pass this simple blessing on to a loved one who is ill. The following Getwell cards can help you find just the right words to express such well-being. When you use these cards, you send the gift of prayer not only from yourself, but also from the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate.

Please follow these simple steps when using the cards:

  1. Send me the name of the recipient. When you send me the names of your family members or friends who will be receiving the cards, I will have a Votive Candle lit for them at the National Shrine of Our Lady of the Snows in petition for their health. Two of the cards also promise that the recipient will be remembered in a Mass at the National Shrine of Our Lady of the Snows.
  2. Send a donation. Your donation of $7 per card, benefits the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate as they serve the poor and needy in the United States and more than 70 countries throughout the world.
  3. Choose a gift. If you would also like to give your loved one a gift with your Oblate “Get Well” card, I have a selection for you to choose from to the right. A gift can be a special blessing to those who are ill, because it serves as an ongoing reminder of your love and concern. Again, your donations help keep our ministries alive through our worldwide soup kitchens, schools, orphanages, medical care, and numerous other programs.

I thank you, my friend, for your support. Let me close by telling you that I said a prayer for you today. I prayed that you will find a ray of hope in every new sunrise, and that you are blessed with health and well-being all of your days.

In the love of Christ and Mary Immaculate,
Fr. John Madigan, O.M.I.
Oblate Director

P.S. Send a special blessing of prayer by having a Healing Candle lit at the Lourdes
Grotto in France. Famous for its healing powers, the Lourdes Grotto is the perfect
place to put a prayer intention for someone in need of healing. For a donation of $50, I will have a Healing Candle lit in Lourdes for your sick family member or friend.

Honor A Loved One

A candle will be lit in Lourdes, France, when you honor your loved one with an engraved TributeWhen you honor your loved one with an engraved Tribute at the Shrine of Our Lady of the Snows’ beautiful Lourdes Grotto, a candle will also be lit for them at the Sacred Grotto in Lourdes, France!

As one of our most popular devotional areas, the Lourdes Grotto is a perfect place to honor a loved one with a lasting tribute. Nestled into a hillside, the Shrine’s Lourdes Grotto is a replica of the actual grotto in France where Our Lady appeared to St. Bernadette. When you honor your loved one at this beautiful and serene site, Oblates who are ministering at the Sacred Basilica in Lourdes, France, will light a Lourdes Candle for them as well. What a blessed way to honor those we love!
