Support Our Missions in Zambia

The Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate have been providing health care, food, education, employment assistance and hope to people in need in Zambia since 1984. Zambia is a large, sparsely populated, but fast-growing country where two-thirds of Zambians live in poverty.

Missionary Oblate priests and brothers travel rough and flooded roads in all-terrain vehicles or use canoes or walk for miles to minister to the poor and abandoned in Zambia.

Education and Job Training

The Missionary Oblates participate in schools training young people for in-demand careers. At the Lukulu School for Boys, they train young men for skilled professions such as mechanics and computer science and programming. At the Sancta Maria College of Nursing and Midwifery, the Missionary Oblates minister to the students.

Growth of the Catholic Faith

The Catholic faith is growing in Zambia and the Missionary Oblates in Zambia are one of the fastest-growing Oblate delegations in the world.

Among their outreach efforts, the Missionary Oblates operate Radio Liseli in remote Western Zambia to spread the word of God. The station features Catholic programming and broadcasts Masses celebrated by the Missionary Oblates. This ministry is important to people in isolated rural villages where access to the Word of God is limited.

The Missionary Oblates opened a new church, St. Michael the Archangel, in Zambia’s Northern Province in 2021. They were invited there by the region’s Paramount Chief Chitimukulu, who converted to Catholicism. The Missionary Oblates here also serve seven outposts around the church.

During the summer of 2023, U.S. parishes donated rosaries and liturgical items including ciboria, chalices and vestments as well as furniture to our Zambia missions. As the Catholic Church continues to grow in Zambia and new parishes are established, these items are needed and appreciated.

To thank you for your generous donation of $25 or more, I have commissioned a lovely Mission Rosary just for you.

This wooden rosary features a beautiful cross and a centerpiece with the images of St. Francis of Assisi and St. Pope John Paul II. Both influential men believed in the importance of serving the poor and caring for all God’s creatures. I hope when you use this handcrafted rosary you are reminded of the care and concern you deliver to our missions and to those who seek salvation in the Good News of Jesus Christ.
